Power Outage Safety

Never use a generator indoors or in an attached garage โ€” carbon monoxide is odorless and kills within minutes.
Keep your refrigerator closed. Food is safe for up to 4 hours without power if the door stays shut.
Do not use candles โ€” use battery-powered or LED lanterns to reduce fire risk during outages.
Charge all devices before the storm. A fully charged phone can last 1โ€“2 days with minimal use.
If you use medical equipment that requires power, register with your utility as a 'life support customer' before hurricane season.
Do not touch downed power lines โ€” assume all downed lines are energized and report them to your utility immediately.
